This is about how much make up I’ve been wearing lately. For New Year’s Eve I added a bit of glitter eye liner and gold eye shadow, but aside from that, it’s been this: Origins blush (color unknown, it’s older), no name brand liquid eyeliner from Duane Reade (totally cost, like, $1.99), Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, and Burt’s Bees tinted lip balm (in Spring Splendor).

Despite my obsessive habit of wearing sweatpants and boots this week, I was stopped by an old man (probably 70-ish years old) in Trader Joe’s. He then said, “Besides my wife, you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. I just didn’t want to tell you that in front of your friend and embarrass you!” I told my friend after and she melted and said, “Oh my god! I wish he would’ve said that in front of me! That’s so cute!"

Although I’d created quite an expectation to wear at least one color from the Urban Decay’s Electric Palette every day, I guess sometimes less is more.

While strolling through the village and SoHo on Memorial Day weekend, I stumbled upon an Origins offering free “mini-facials” and immediately popped in.  Well, even though it was ‘mini’ it was still really relaxing and a great break from the heat.   It was also a great opportunity to try their new “Zero Oil” line of products.  I have “combination skin,” meaning it’s dry but can amass oil in humid weather.  I liked how the products felt on my face immediately after application but I asked the woman administering the facial if I could take home tiny samples of some of the products to try them at home so I could see whether or not there was any daily benefits.

She obliged and gave me samples of the Zero Oil oil-free lotion, Zero Oil pore purifying tonerZero Oil deep pore cleanser, and their Modern Friction dermabrasion product.

I used three of the four above products this week (I didn’t get a chance to use the Modern Friction) and I’m sorry to say that I wasn’t really impressed.  My skin still accumulated a lot of oil through out the day so the toner didn’t work (I’d stick with my drug store bought Nutrogena toner any day) and I also found that the lotion felt too heavy after a few hours on my skin.

So, if you have skin like mine, this probably isn’t the line for you, but try the free mini-facial and decide for yourself.
