Remember how I’d been going to the gym and using the elliptical 4 mornings during the week? Well, according to the above article that may have fucked up my metabolism and have a part in screwing up my weight.
BUT… but… I ran 5k twice last week and I almost enjoyed it and I’d like to keep doing it at least once a week. I ran for 31-33 minutes at a time so I’m thinking that might not be overdoing it too much.
This above article really drove home the need to do more weight training. I went to an Ashtanga/Iyengar-heavy yoga class last night and aside from my Saturday morning class, I’m going to do my best to stay away from Vinyasa/Power/Fire/Body Assault yoga classes.
And then, this morning, I used my arm weights and did a couple free weight exercises and then put on my Barre DVD and worked on the arm module and about half of the core module. I’m going to use the shit out of that DVD.
This morning I also noticed that eating cold foods in the morning don’t sit well in my stomach. Back to oatmeal for me! #protein
Last Saturday, after yoga, I went to Trader Joe’s and then headed home and immediately began to make turkey chili, for the first time. For some reason I’d always thought that chili seemed like a lot of work, but that night I just said fuck it and hunkered down with Netflix and made it.
As the weather is getting colder (kind of, sort of, sometimes), I turned to my book on Ayurveda and knew I had to change my diet, somewhat. When the weather gets colder, it’s recommended that you eat warmer foods that are easier to digest since your system slows down (we haven’t really evolved completely past the days of hibernating cave men). So that meant no more cold yogurts and salads for me and many more soups and stews.
After chopping up an insane amount of vegetables, I sautéed them, added some broth and tomatoes, let it simmer, and then it was done. Seriously, it was so easy. My life will never be the same again – neither will my diet. In the recipe it was served with sour cream and cheese, but to be honest, I don’t really like sour cream on my chili. It makes it very watery. Ew.
This recipe is so easy and it makes, like, at least a half-dozen servings. Cook it, seriously.
I’m looking high-protein recipe ideas because apparently I don’t get enough protein and that’s why I’m always effing hungry. I don’t feel like Googling, so if you would be so kind… leave me some links! 🙂
So for the last week I’ve been getting up in the morning, going to yoga and/or going running, and then making a smoothie (now with a scoop of chocolate whey protein powder, per Jenn’s suggestion!). I’ve been eating toast (or some kind of carb), eggs, pizza, salad with grilled chicken, or something like that throughout the rest of the day. I feel like I’m not getting all of the nutrients I need though. I’ll eat a peach or a Kind Bar for breakfast too usually.
I could Google this myself, but then I could end up finding a lot of bad information. I have a a lot of smart friends on Tumblr, so I wanted to come here first. Any information is appreciated. 🙂
